Happening

The Fire Fighters’ and Police Officers’ Civil Service Commission of Missouri City (the “Commission”) will be established pursuant to the results of the special election held on November 3, 2020, adopting Chapter 143 of the Texas Local Government Code (fire and police permanent employment). The Commission will monitor Missouri City’s personnel practices relating to the hiring, firing and administration of disciplinary action of police and fire civil service personnel, and will ensure that the provisions of Chapter 143 of the Texas Local Government Code are enforced. The Commission, which consists of three members, is appointed by the City Manager and confirmed by the City Council. To serve on the Commission, a person must meet the following minimum requirements:

  1. be of good moral character;
  2. be a United States citizen;
  3. be a resident of the municipality who has resided in the municipality for more than three years;
  4. be over 25 years of age; and
  5. not have held a public office within the preceding three years.

To apply to serve on the Commission, submit an application and resume here to Missouri City at by November 19, 2020. By submitting an application, each applicant attests to the applicant’s eligibility and consents to a criminal history record information check by the City of Missouri City. An application will not be considered if the applicant is later found to be ineligible. Additionally, providing false or misleading information in an application to serve on the Commission will serve as grounds for removal after appointment. Certain applicants may be interviewed by the recommendation committee and the City Manager between November 30, 2020-December 11, 2020. Commission appointees will be confirmed by the City Council by December 31, 2020.

Each initial appointee will serve either a one (1), two (2), or three (3)-year term. After the initial appointment, commissioners will serve staggered three (3)-year terms with the term of one member expiring each year. Meetings of the Commission will be scheduled as needed to conduct the business of the Commission.
