Free Time This Holiday Season? Wondering What to Do With the Kids?

Happening

During this pandemic, we all have had to think of innovative ways to keep ourselves and family members busy. Our Parks Department has taken “thinking outside the box” to a new level to offer the community fun but safe events for the holiday season!

On the Agenda

Visiting the City Hall Tree – FREE – Dec. 4 through Jan. 1
The holiday season kicked off with the annual tree lighting ceremony Friday, Dec. 4 at the City Hall Complex, 1522 Texas Pkwy. This year, it was a virtual ceremony due to the pandemic. All are welcome to stop by for festive flicks in front of the glittering 30-foot tree.

Letters to Santa – FREE – Dec. 1 through 14
Children have until Dec. 14th to drop off their letters to Santa. A mailbox has been placed just inside the Recreation & Tennis Center, 2701 Cypress Point Dr. Be sure to include the child’s first and last name, age, mailing address and holiday wish list. Adding a hand-drawn holiday picture to the letter really makes Santa smile. Please review letter before placing it in the mailbox.

Gingerbread Playground Competition – Cost $10 – Dec. 1 through 16
Register now to be part of the gingerbread playground competition! Pick up a starter kit for your playground cookie creation at the Recreation & Tennis Center, 2701 Cypress Point Dr. The cost of the kit is $10. Feel free to add additional edible decorations. Entries must be submitted by Dec. 16 to joksan.perez@missouricitytx.gov. The winner will be announced Dec. 18!

Holiday Toy Drive – Dec. 7 through 18
The annual Holiday Toy Drive kicked off Monday, Dec. 7. Parks & Recreation is teaming up with the Missouri City Police Department to collect toys for children this holiday season. The donations will be accepted from Dec. 7 – 18. All new and unwrapped toys can be dropped off at the Recreation & Tennis Center, 2701 Cypress Point Dr.; Public Safety Headquarters, 3849 Cartwright Rd.; or any of the Missouri City Fire Stations. For the address of a nearby Fire Station, please log on to the City’s website. The donations will go to Bethel Ministries and Blue Santa.

Calls with Claus – COST $5 – Dec. 12
Zoom! Zoom! Zoom! Be sure to reserve a time for the kids to talk with Santa via Zoom. Yes, that’s right – Santa knows how to use Zoom, so be sure to reserve a time slot! The calls will be up to five minutes per reservation, and each reservation is $5. Time slots are available from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. This event will keep everyone safe, taking place in the comfort of your own home. Register online or by calling 281.403.8637.

Holiday Hunt in the Park – FREE – All day Dec. 16
Join the Holiday Hunt in the Park! Each letter of the alphabet will be hidden along the walking trail at Buffalo Run Park, 1122 Buffalo Run Blvd. Find each letter and fill in the number it represents to complete the puzzle. The puzzle can be found on the City’s website. Your answer should be submitted to julia.thompson@missouricitytx.gov by Dec.. 29 to be entered to win a prize!

If you have any questions regarding these events or questions about a membership at the Recreation & Tennis Center, please call 281.403.8637. Plan to join in the fun this holiday season!
