Third & Final Storm Debris Pick Up

Separating Your Debris_Page_1.jpgFort Bend County Contractor to Complete Third & Final Storm Debris Pick Up Sweep; Place Items on Curb by Thursday, Oct. 12

As a reminder, Fort Bend County, not Missouri City, continues to manage storm debris pick up. In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey and its devastating effects on the community, City officials have been partnering with the County to provide residents with up-to-date information about storm debris collection plans.

Fort Bend County’s contractor in charge of picking up storm debris has completed two of its three scheduled sweeps. The third and final sweep is being scheduled for next week; City crews are going to canvass neighborhoods to identify any remaining debris locations on Thursday, Oct. 12. In order for staff to identify where pick-up areas are, residents must place all remaining storm debris out by the curb before Thursday morning.

For those with gated areas in your subdivision, email HOA Liaison Kelly Matte to request a form that you may complete and return to her. Once the form has been returned, it will be forwarded to the appropriate party, facilitating the process for County dump trucks to enter and dispose of the debris.

It is very important a gate code be provided or the gates are left open for the trucks to enter the community.

Residents are asked to park vehicles away from solid waste pickup areas to assure trucks and crews have access to collect disposable materials.

The updated FAQs below address the most common solid waste questions being asked by residents.

Who will pick up my trash?
For residents receiving City service, WCA resumed regular, recycling, bulk and yard waste pickups on Monday, Sept. 11 at 7 a.m. Residents are reminded to bag all green waste, such as grass or leaves.

When will storm debris such as building materials and tree limbs be picked up and who is handling those collections?
Other waste resulting from Hurricane Harvey, such as construction, demolition debris and tree limbs, is being collected in accordance with the Fort Bend County Office of Emergency Management debris management program. These items may be bagged. The County initiated this clean up during the Sept. 9-10 weekend and will conduct a third and final sweep throughout the City the week of Oct. 15-21, 2017.

Will I receive a rebate or discount if WCA did not pick up my household trash, yard trimmings, and recyclable materials during or after the hurricane?
No. Pursuant to WCA’s contract with the City, if the company is unable to perform its duties because of an event out of its control, such as a hurricane or a tornado, WCA’s inability to perform must be excused during and after such event to provide crews with enough time to correct the adverse effect of the event.

Do I have to separate my trash for pick up?
Yes. Refer to the “Separating Your Debris” diagram above and on the homepage of the City’s website:
