1. How do I obtain a fire permit

All fire permits are issued via the City Planning (Permits) Department, located at 1522 Texas Parkway, during normal business hours.

The list of fire permits issued can be found on the Fire Permit Application along with submittal requirements for fire protection systems. The permit application can be completed online via the link above or printed and submitted with construction drawings to the permit office.

2. How can I obtain a fire report?

When requesting a copy of a fire report, please have specific information ready when you call, such as the location and date of the incident. Please call Missouri City Fire and Rescue Services at 281.403.4300 between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Obtain a fire report

3. How do I dispose of hazardous waste?

4. Can I arrange for a fire station tour?

Missouri City Fire and Rescue Services operates from four fire stations. Groups of citizens, students, Cub Scouts, Brownies, or other similar organizations may request to be given tours of the fire stations. Each group will be briefed on the responsibility of the station, its personnel, and the assigned equipment. The tour information can be tailored to the group’s specific needs or age.

An arrangement for tours and additional information is available by calling the Fire Department headquarters at 281.403.4300, Monday through Friday, or completing the Fire Resource Request Form online.

5. Why does the fire truck arrive when I call for an ambulance?

All members of Missouri City Fire and Rescue Services are considered to be first responders. Many times the fire truck can arrive at a location faster than the ambulance service, which allows more time to help a person in need. All personnel of the department are trained at minimum as an EMT-Basic or as high as a paramedic.

6. How do I get fire department assistance for smoke detectors in my house?

Missouri City Fire and Rescue Services provide a smoke detector program in which we will come to your house and assist with installation of new smoke detectors or servicing existing detectors. 7. What if I smell gas in my house?

If you smell an odor of rotten eggs in your home, you may be smelling natural gas. Immediately evacuate your home and call the Fire Department emergency number (9-1-1). Do not open any windows or doors to let the gas out as this makes it harder for the fire fighters to locate the problem.

8. When was the Missouri City Fire Department founded?

The Missouri City Fire Department was first founded as a volunteer department on December 3, 1956, by city officials and a group of citizens. The department remained composed of all volunteer personnel until 1972, when it received its first paid employee. Over the next 20 years, more personnel were added to meet the demand of the call volume. The department is now staffed by all paid personnel.

9. How do I get help in an emergency?

The following information is presented for you and your children to become familiar with should there be an emergency. Please make sure that your children understand what they should do should a medical, fire, or police emergency occur.

Call 9-1-1 for police, fire, and medical emergencies. When you call for help, what you say is important. Remember to stay calm and speak clearly. Say what is wrong and the kind of help you need. Tell the call taker the location of the emergency and give your name and telephone number. Even if you cannot speak, the call taker may be able to tell where you're calling from. Follow the call taker's instructions and stay on the line in an emergency. Know what to do when you call; roll play with your children, so that they know what to do in an emergency.

10. Can I park in fire lanes?

Parking in a designated fire lane is prohibited. Fire lanes are considered a part of the fire protection system of any building. It is designed to allow unobstructed fire apparatus access at all times to the building in the event of a fire or a medical emergency. Whenever a fire lane is blocked the safety of that building and its occupants are jeopardized.

11. How do I obtain a burn permit?

Open burning is not allowed in the City of Missouri City, except for barbecue pits used for cooking or approved outdoor fireplaces with at least three sides and an approved spark arrestor.

12. Can I ignite fireworks inside the city limits?

Fireworks can bring special meaning to the Fourth of July. However, they can cause serious injury and start dangerous fires. Any possession or discharging of fireworks is illegal within the City of Missouri City. For the benefit and safety of our citizens, the City of Missouri City conducts a majestic fireworks display every Fourth of July. 13. What fire safety should a business follow?

Fire exits are designed to provide continuous and unobstructed means of exiting a building. An exiting system in any building may include doors, doorways, corridors, stairways, and any other exiting systems. Required exit doors must not be locked when a building is occupied. Escape routes should be posted at work stations and updated when changes are made. Remind personnel to observe the best escape route from their location. A fire drill or walk through is also a good idea.

14. How do I obtain a commercial fire inspection?

All inspections are scheduled via the division’s inspection (281.403.4311), and are scheduled in the order received.

If a permit or construction plan is required for the installation or condition being inspected, please ensure it is on site and readily available for review by the field inspector. 15. What kind of fire escape plan should I have?

When planning a home fire escape plan, draw a floor plan of your home and include all windows, doors, halls, stairs and bedrooms. Make sure all rooms, especially bedrooms, have at least two exits. Draw dark arrows on your plan to indicate normal exits. Mark emergency escape routes with lighter arrows, these alternative exits are to be used when normal exits are blocked.

Test your escape route, make sure windows can be opened easily, and that screens and storm windows can be removed from the inside. If your bedrooms are on the second floor, provide folding escape ladders to safely get to the ground level. To account for everyone's safety, select and list on your plan a definite meeting place outside the house. Please do not waste time gathering valuables or getting dressed, every second counts and your safety is paramount. Assign someone to assist infants, elderly, and handicapped family members.

Be prepared to call the fire department from a neighbor’s house by dialing 9-1-1. Give the 9-1-1 operator your name, address, phone number, and type of emergency. Wait to answer any questions before terminating the call. Remember, practice is the only way this plan is learned and become second nature during an emergency. 17. What are the Insurance Services Organization (ISO) Classification Regulations?

Any property inside the city limits of Missouri City is an ISO Class 3.

For areas outside of the city limits and within our response district, the Outside Protection Area (OPA):

• Property within 1,000 feet from a fire hydrant and within five miles from a fire station is an ISO class 3.


• Property that is more than 1,000 feet from a fire hydrant and within five miles from a fire station is an ISO class 9.


• Property that is less than 1,000 feet from a fire hydrant and is over five miles from a fire station is an ISO class 10.


• Property that is more than 1,000 feet from a fire hydrant and over five miles from a fire station is an ISO class 10.
