Patrol Division

Mission Statement

The mission of the Patrol Division is to protect life and property through proactive and reactive patrol. The Patrol Division will arrest criminal law violators, enforce State and City laws, and help enhance the overall quality of life in the community via collaborative efforts with citizens in the areas of public safety, public service, and conflict mediation.

Description of Operations

The Patrol division is under the direct supervision of a Captain. The Division is staffed by 45 officers and is responsible for patrolling the City to instill a sense of confidence and security to the public. The Division answers calls for service, takes initial reports of criminal activity, makes lawful arrests and maintains the City jail. Patrol officers provide directed enforcement and prevention efforts via close patrols, vacation house watches and focused traffic control programs.

Objectives

  • Detect and deter criminal activity through proactive preventative patrol.
  • Provide proactive traffic control throughout the city.
  • Provide a timely response to all calls for service.
  • Furnish a high level of professional service to all of our residents.

Seat Belt Law

Texas State Law requires the use of seat belts in vehicles when the vehicle is in operation.

  • The operator of a passenger vehicle commits an offense if a child younger than four years of age or less than 36 inches in height is not secured by a child passenger safety seat system.
  • A passenger 15 years of age or older commits an offense if not secured by a safety belt in the front seat of a passenger vehicle.
  • The operator of a passenger vehicle commits an offense if a passenger who is at least 4 years of age but younger than 17 years of age is not secured by a seat belt anywhere in the vehicle, provided that a seat belt was provided as original equipment or added to a vehicle.

Motor vehicle crashes remain the leading cause of death and acquired disability in children over age 1 in the United States.

Traffic Accident Reports

The driver of any vehicle in an accident occurring within the City of Missouri City that results in injury, death, damage exceeding $1,000.00 or damage to any vehicle that cannot be normally and safely driven shall report such accident by the quickest means possible to the Police Department. Police officers called to the scene of such accidents may investigate the accident, file charges and submit accident reports to the Texas Department of Public Safety within ten days of the accident.  If you are not a participant in the accident then you must follow the guidelines as set forth through open records. The fee for one copy is $6.00. For information concerning Accident Reports, contact the Missouri City Police Department Records Division between 8:00 am - 4:00 pm Monday through Friday. Abandoned Vehicles

The procedures for handling abandoned vehicles is shared by the City Inspections Department and the Police Department. Their jurisdiction is based on whether the vehicle is located on a public roadway or private property. Citizens wishing to report an abandoned vehicle on private property should report the vehicle to the Inspections Department Code Enforcement Hotline at 281-403-8560, 24 hours a day.Citizen's wishing to report abandoned vehicles on a public roadway should call the Missouri City Police Department at 281-403-8700, 24 hours a day
