Training & Recruitment
Training and Education
The Missouri City Police Department (MCPD) maintains an active in-service training program for all employees. The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Education (TCLEOSE) has established minimum training standards for all Texas peace officers. This mandated training must be accomplished within a designated time frame, generally every two years starting September 1st of every odd numbered year. The mandated training must encompass several predetermined subject matter and equal at least 40 hours. The MCPD consistently exceeds the minimum state requirement for all officers. Additionally, we are working on a project to identify "MCPD Core Position Courses" for all rank levels within the department. This will enhance the skill level potential for each position and ensure all officers are well grounded in subject matter deemed important for their position.
Our civilian employees also receive position appropriate training. We are constantly on the look for in-service schools that will enhance their skill level and thus the quality of service they provide to our citizens.
We believe it is important to assist our employees in their professional development. In addition to in-service training for all employees, the city provides college tuition reimbursement for successful completion of college courses. We believe the combination of training and education round out our employees and benefits the community. We are very interested in the career paths of our employees and groom them to be future leaders of the organization.
In the provision of training, the MCPD hosts in-service training at the Public Safety Headquarters, located at 3849 Cartwright Road in Missouri City, Texas. If you are a State certified training academy, or private police training provider, and wish the Missouri City Police Department to be the hosting agency for your training program, you may contact the administrative sergeant for additional details on availability.
