Drainage
Drainage commonly refers to the natural or artificial means to channel water on the surface or sub-surface levels into a downstream catchment. As in most communities, the City of Missouri City deals with drainage issues in terms of:
- Drainage structures such as catchments, pipes and ponds, features that are documented in the community’s various Master Drainage Plans;
- Floodplain management function to administer the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) through FEMA, which enables the citizens in the community to purchase flood insurance and provides guidance on how we can mitigate flooding risks;
- Storm water quality function to address EPA and TCEQ mandates to protect the quality of surface water in our community through the Storm Water Management Program.
