A major component of the total compensation package the City offers its employees is base salary in return for an expected level of high performance, effectiveness and efficiency. In general, the City determines base salary according to market values and the overall knowledge, skills and overall abilities of the employee. The total compensation package includes benefits that are integral part of the total compensation package, including: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Texas Municipal Retirement System, Health Savings Accounts, Holidays, Sick Leave, Education Reimbursement, Employee Assistance Programs, among others.

Preventive Medical Care — no charge
Single coverage deductible - $2000 annually
Family coverage deductible - $4000 annually
Employee pays a discounted rate for all medical services and prescriptions until annual deductible is met.
Once deductible is met all medical services and prescriptions are covered at 90%, you pay remaining 10%
Single coverage out-of-pocket maximum - $4000 annually
Family coverage out-of-pocket maximum - $8000 annually
Once out-of-pocket maximum is met medical services and prescriptions are covered at 100% for the remainder of the calendar year $1,000,000 lifetime maximum per participant
Health Savings Account (HSA)

Tax-deferred money to be used to pay for medical, dental, vision, and pharmaceutical expenses
Maximum annual deposits are equal to your annual deductible ($2000-single or $4000-family)
Single coverage City contributes $1,250 annually to employee's HSA
Family coverage City contributes $2,250 annually to employee's HSA
Employee may elect to contribute, tax-deferred, to their HSA not to exceed the total maximum: Single - $750/year or Family - $1,750/year
Remaining balance at the end of the year rolls over each year

Major medical services covered at 80% after deductible is met, you pay remaining 20%

Once out-of-pocket maximum is met for the calendar year all major medical services are covered at 100% for the remainder of the calendar year
Office co-pays and prescription co-pays do not count towards annual deductible and out-of-pocket maximum
