Failure to Appear
If you do not appear in court at your appointed time or make payment on or before your appearance day, an additional charge may be filed against you and a warrant will be issued for your arrest. If you fail to appear in court as provided by law for the prosecution of the offense, you may be denied renewal of your driver's license and assessed an additional fee.
Denial of Drivers License
As of September 1, 1995, Senate Bill 1504 became effective. This bill states that any individual with outstanding warrants for failure to appear based on complaints, citations, or court orders to pay a fine involving a violation of a traffic law may be denied renewal of a driver's license. (As of September 1, 1999, this includes all fine-only offenses.)
Article 103.0031 of the Code of Criminal Procedure provides authority for a city to contract for collection services. This article states that any individual who has an outstanding warrant for more than 60 days, such warrant is then transmitted to a collection agency and a 30% collection fee is assessed.
