- February – Missouri City Purchasing and Risk Manager Alan Phillips was named South East Texas Association of Public Purchasing (SETAPP) Manager of the Year.
- February – City Manager Anthony J. Snipes is announced as an honoree among D-Mars 2016 Top 50 Black Professionals and Entrepreneurs.
- February – Missouri City Interim Parks & Recreation Director, Jim Browne, was honored as the “Dan Whitworth Fellow Award” recipient at the 2016 Texas Recreation & Parks Society Institute and Trade Show in Galveston. This is the highest individual honor that the 2,000+ member Texas Recreation & Parks Society bestows for years of leadership and contribution to the parks & recreation profession.
- Missouri City earned the “Gold Star” award for Financial Transparency from the Texas Comptroller’s Office.
- March – District D City Councilmember Floyd Emery elected Vice Chair for the Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC).
- March – Missouri City was named a top-20 finalist for the 2016 All-America City Awards by the National Civic League.
- April – Missouri City Fire & Rescue Services receives a Public Protection Class rating of 1/1Y, the highest rating awarded by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). ISO’s Public Protection Classification Program (PPC) plays an important role in the underwriting process at insurance companies. Communities that improve their PPC rating may get lower insurance premiums.
- May – Missouri City won multiple Communication Silver Awards of Distinction in the following categories:

- June – Missouri City was ranked 43 on the list of 50 safest cities in Texas in 2016 by SafeWise, a security system resource website. The report was compiled utilizing data from the F.B.I. Crime in the U.S. Report.
- June – Missouri City secures designation as Texas Mother-Friendly Worksite for the City Hall campus. This achievement places Missouri City among more than 2,200 worksites across the state that improve the health of Texans by proactively supporting their employees in meeting their breastfeeding goals.
- July – Fleet Superintendent John Foreman received the American Public Works Association (APWA) Texas Chapter Professional Manager of the Year Award.
- July – Missouri City named eighth safest Big City in Texas by Value Penguin, a top-rated personal finance research and analysis website.
- August – Parks and Recreation was presented the International Society of Arboriculture – Texas Chapter “2016 Outstanding Arbor Day Award” for Edible Earth Fest.
- September – Missouri City Police Department earned a $59,255 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Formula Grant (JAG) from the Criminal Justice Division of the Office of the Governor (CJD) through the Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) to purchase automated license plate recognition (ALPR) equipment.
- October – Missouri City Police Department earns Bureau of Justice Assistance Award with a recurring grant that will fund bulletproof vests for officers.
- November – Missouri City Lucker Acers 40 & Over 7.0 Mixed Team won fourth place at the United States Tennis Association (USTA) National Championships in Surprise, Ariz. In July 2016, the team won the Mixed 7.0 2016 USTA Sectional Championship and advanced to nationals to represent Texas.
- November – Junior Tennis player Emilee Kim won first place in the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Challenger Tournament. Other junior tennis program members who participated in the USTA Challenger Tournament and deserve recognition are:
