MISSOURI CITY (February 8, 2024) - Dust off your leotards, for one of the most anticipated events during Black History Month. Houstonian and living legend, Lauren Anderson, will teach a Ballet Master Class on February 10th, at the Fort Bend Academy of Arts and Dance. The master class is open for dancers ages twelve to adults.

Lauren Anderson, is a household name. She started training at Houston Ballet’s Ben Stevenson Academy from the early age of seven. From there, she performed with the Houston Ballet from 1983 to 2006. Since January 2007, Anderson began teaching ballet at the Houston Ballet’s Ben Stevenson Academy. She also teaches master classes at local schools, and inspires students with detailing her experience as one of America’s talented Black ballerinas.

Lauren Anderson, feels blessed to have the opportunity to evoke a high self-esteem within children through dance lessons; “When you see a kid…become more of themselves and feel more comfortable being inside their own skin, that’s something money can’t buy.”

The annual Free Black History Dance Day, brings hundreds of dancers from the community together. This event also highlights African Americans contributions to the arts. Anderson encourages everyone to come out and have a great time; “Come in and dance! We are people. We are community and this, I think, brings the community together.”
