[ARCHIVED] Current City Projects Update: July 2014

The Show Me City’s growth and development continues to include exciting new projects. Here are updates on some:

Missouri City residents now have access to Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital’s leading emergency care capabilities. The new state-of-the-art Houston Methodist Emergency Care Center is located at 8200 Hwy. 6 between the Sienna Plantation and Riverstone communities. The center is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week to treat patients of all ages who are ill or injured. The 9,600-square-foot facility includes 10 private treatment rooms, full-service X-ray, CT and ultrasound capabilities. Currently, the Center is partnering with the Texas Department of Transportation to fund the construction of a left-turn lane in the Highway 6 median in front of the center. The new center is just part of Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital’s $131 million expansion to better serve patients from Fort Bend and surrounding areas.

The City and our Municipal Utility District partner is moving toward the opening of Fire Station 5, which will serve the southern portion of Sienna Plantation. The facility was fully funded by the Sienna Municipal Utility District #1 and is located on Waters Lake Boulevard. While the building is substantially complete, it is not yet fully operational due to some remaining construction and operational items. Once open, four firefighters will staff the new station and have use of a new fire engine. The new station will allow the City to reduce response times in that area by 50 percent.

Additionally:

  • A new Smart Financial Credit Union is proposed for the Fort Bend Town Center near Knight Road and Highway 6.
  • Bushi Ban Karate is proposing a location in the Center at Knights Court shopping center.
  • A new Children’s clothing shop is proposed within the Center at Knight Court shopping center.
  • A new Brain Balance tutoring facility is planned for the Pecan Plaza shopping center on Dulles Avenue.
  • Diamond Dialysis, a medical facility, is proposed for the former Buffalo Wild Wings building on Highway 6.
  • A new 2,000-square-foot office building is proposed to be located at 2111 Hwy. 6.
