ALL ABOARD! For the first time in “Show Me City” history, Union Pacific Train No. 956 will roll into Missouri City on July 4, signaling loads of more Independence Day fun for residents and visitors. Passengers will be treated to free rides around the City Hall Complex, 1522 Texas Pkwy., from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The mini-train will board guests in front of the Community Center; to easily access the pickup site, participants may use the newly-opened Thomas Taylor Parkway and Scanlin Road; public parking is available in the Missouri City Library lot. Families will also be treated to face painting designs and may purchase snacks from event vendors.
Then, after the UP mini-train has made its final stop, another set of fantastic July 4 fun will kick off at 6 p.m. at Buffalo Run Park and in the stadium parking lot of Thurgood Marshall High School, 1122 Buffalo Run Blvd.
Free festivities at the main event will include amusement rides, a rock wall, inflatables, human hamster balls, a video gaming station and a fireworks show at 9:15 p.m. Seating for the show will be available in the high school stadium and guests may bring blankets and chairs and sit on the football field. The City has partnered with METRO to provide free bus rides to the main event from the Missouri City Park & Ride at Beltway 8 and Fondren Road.
Food trucks such as Bernie’s Burger Bus, Mahalo Munchies and Soul Cat Cuisine will be selling food. The event will also have shaved ice, barbecue, Cajun food, burgers, tamales and turkey legs for sale. Parking will be available at the high school and at 14501 Fondren Rd.
