[ARCHIVED] Exciting Holiday Recreation Events

The following Parks and Recreation events are planned throughout the rest of the fall and into the winter months:

Family Fun Night: Bike Missouri City

  • What: An evening of biking fun to kick off the City’s new Bike Rental Program. Participants will bring their own bikes and enjoy glow rides on the City’s local bike lanes at 7, 7:30 and 8 p.m. led by Shape Up Fort Bend. Participants will also enjoy bike tune-ups provided by Sugar Cycles and an off-road safety course. A limited number of bikes will be available for use at each station. Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase. The program is free for Missouri City residents. Participants can sign up at the Recreation and Tennis Center or by calling 281.403.8637.
  • When: 6 – 9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 13
  • Where: Recreation and Tennis Center, 2701 Cypress Point Dr.

Build a Wreath Program

  • What: A $30 holiday wreath-making tutorial taught by wreath designer Sharon Hill of Build a Wreath USA. Participants will choose a seasonal design and have the opportunity to personalize their wreath. The class fee includes all supplies.   • When: 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 18
  • Where: Recreation and Tennis Center, 2701 Cypress Point Dr.

Senior Breakfast and Bingo

  • What: Participants will enjoy fellowship with peers, breakfast and competitive rounds of bingo for great prizes. Tickets are available in person at the Recreation and Tennis Center before each event.
  • When: 9:30 – 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19
  • Where: Recreation and Tennis Center, 2701 Cypress Point Dr.

Snowfest Festival

  • What: Missouri City’s annual holiday tree lighting, firework and festival celebration in front of City Hall. This year, residents will enjoy pre-festival entertainment from the Fort Bend Academy of Arts & Dance, followed by the tree lighting ceremony and fireworks. During the festival, guests will enjoy a three-lane snowhill, camel rides, moonwalks, a video game station and photos with Santa and his reindeer. To support area families in need this holiday season, the Missouri City Police Department will be onsite to collect unwrapped toys for the annual Blue Santa Toy Drive. All donations can be dropped off by the Christmas tree. Parking will be available on-site and at Marshall High School; shuttles will transport resident to and from the evening.

  • 5:30 – 9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4
    5:30 – 6 p.m.: Entertainment from the Fort Bend Academy of Arts & Dance, followed by the annual tree lighting ceremony and fireworks show
    6 – 9 p.m.: Event activities will be open to the public
  • Where: City Hall Complex, 1522 Texas Parkway

Snowfest Fun Run

  • What: A fun run for runners of all levels and ages. In lieu of a registration fee, Snowfest Shuffle participants are encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy for the Missouri City Police Department Blue Santa Toy Drive. Free T-shirts will be given to runners while supplies last. The 1.25-mile run will take place on Cartwright Road from the Recreation and Tennis Center and end at the Public Safety Headquarters, where participants are invited to hop on board the special Snowfest Shuffle Float and ride in the parade.
  • When: Saturday, Dec. 5
  • 7:30 – 7:45 a.m.: Check-in
    8:15 a.m.: Fun Run begins
  • Where: Begins at Recreation and Tennis Center, 2701 Cypress Point Dr., and ends at the Public Safety Headquarters, 3849 Cartwright Rd.

Snowfest Parade

  • What: The City’s annual Snowfest Parade, which will begin at the Public Safety Headquarters at the corner of Cartwright and Murphy Road. The two-mile long procession will feature floats decorated in holiday themes, horses and various organizations on foot. Contact City staff at 281.403.8635 or Kyle Frye to ask about participating in the parade.
  • When: 9 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5
  • Where: Cartwright Road between Murphy Road and Texas Parkway

Crystal Glitz Holiday Beading Class

  • What: A beading class taught by local artist Robyn Crowell. Robyn will lead participants through basic stringing, pattern creation and design elements to develop a holiday piece with Czech Crystal. The cost is $45, which includes all required supplies. Registration is required. Sign up at the Recreation and Tennis Center, 2701 Cypress Point Dr., or by calling 281.403.8637.
  • When: 6:30 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 3
  • Where: Recreation and Tennis Center, 2701 Cypress Point Dr.

Senior Holiday Party

  • What: An evening to get in the holiday spirit with great company. Dinner and live music will be available from 5 – 6:30 p.m. Starting at 6:30 p.m., the Missouri City Ballet will perform a special showing of “The Nutcracker.” Guests are encouraged to give back to the community by bringing canned goods that will be given to families in need. Everyone who participates in this initiative will receive one additional raffle ticket. Participants are encouraged to purchase their $5 tickets early at the Recreation and Tennis Center.
  • When: 5 – 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 10
  • Where: Recreation and Tennis Center, 2701 Cypress Point Dr.

Family Fun Night: Winter Carnival

  • What: A holiday-themed carnival for the whole family that is free for Missouri City residents. The event will include dinner, games, cookie decorating, ornament making and more. The night will have an open format, and participants can visit a variety of games, craft stations and dinner at their own leisure. There will also be raffle drawings throughout the evening for prizes. Pre-registration is required. Interested participants can sign up at the Recreation and Tennis Center or by calling 281.403.8637.
  • When: 6 – 9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 11
  • Where: Recreation and Tennis Center, 2701 Cypress Point Dr.

Parents Day Out

  • What: A chance for parents to drop their children off at the Recreation and Tennis Center so they can enjoy the holidays and finish any last-minute holiday tasks. The afternoon will include lunch, sports, group games, crafts and plenty of fun for all young participants. The program is $5 per person, and pre-registration is required. Space is limited; interested participants can sign up at the Recreation and Tennis Center.
  • When: 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12
  • Where: Recreation and Tennis Center, 2701 Cypress Point Dr.

Kids’ Day Out

  • What: A $20-per-day winter day camp for ages 5 – 12 that will include games, large group activities, sports and crafts. Participants must bring their own sack lunch; snacks will be provided. Space is limited, and pre-registration is required at the Recreation and Tennis Center.
  • When: 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. on the following days:
