In April 2000, the City of Missouri City purchased 95 acres from Ft. Bend Independence School District for a storm water detention project in the Cangelosi Watershed. The site is immediately adjacent to Thurgood Marshall High School on Buffalo Run Boulevard. Although the four lakes are used for storm water retention, the city recently completed a park development project to improve this property into an outstanding park with multiple outdoor opportunities for all ages.

Funding
Buffalo Run Park development was funded in part by a Texas Parks and Wildlife Outdoor Recreational Matching Grant, City Capital Improvement Funds, and Community Block Development Grant Funds.
Amenities
Now complete, the park features entrance roads into the park, covered pavilions, an observation tower, fishing piers, nature trails, restrooms, public boat ramp, picnic tables, sand volleyball court, horseshoe pits, and many other outdoor opportunities. All four lakes are connected and navigable by boats. A NO WAKE rule is in effect for all water vessels.
